Toyota service due? Petrol, diesel and hybrid, looked after properly.
Based in Westerhope, Newcastle upon Tyne, we service Toyota to the manufacturer schedule, using the correct oil specification and quality parts.
Toyotas earn their reputation by being maintained, not by being ignored. The cars that reach very high mileages are the ones that had their oil changed on time, every time.

At West Auto, we keep things clear and practical from the start.
We work with Toyota drivers across Newcastle, Westerhope, West Denton, Chapel House, Chapel Park, Newbiggin Hall, Lemington, Denton Burn and the surrounding areas.
If your Toyota needs more than a service, you are already in the right place. Our garage services include servicing, diagnostics, repairs and MOTs.
Toyota runs a scheme that extends hybrid battery cover year by year, well beyond the original warranty period. The condition is that an annual hybrid health check is carried out by a Toyota authorised centre.
That specific check has to be done by Toyota. We cannot replicate it, and neither can any other independent garage.
So if that extended battery cover matters to you, and on a hybrid you intend to keep it usually should, keep the annual check going. It is worth having.
What that does not mean is that everything has to go to the dealer. Your standard servicing, MOT, brakes, tyres, suspension and repairs can be done independently without affecting your main manufacturer warranty. Plenty of owners run both, and it is a perfectly sensible arrangement.
Terms on schemes like this do change, so it is worth confirming the current position with Toyota directly rather than taking anyone's word for it, ours included.
There are a few things that behave differently on a hybrid, and they are worth knowing about:
It is not a free pass, though. Chains, guides and tensioners are lubricated by the engine oil, and their life depends almost entirely on that oil being changed on time at the right specification. A chain neglected through extended intervals will let go eventually, and it is a bigger job than a belt would have been.
Which is the short version of why a Toyota reaches 200,000 miles or does not: the servicing.
The manufacturer's schedule must be followed, and the parts and fluids used must meet the manufacturer's specification. That is how we work.
The hybrid battery extension scheme covered above is separate and runs on its own terms, which is why we have set it out plainly rather than buried it.
You get a full invoice detailing the work carried out and the parts and fluids used. Keep those. They are your service record, and Toyota service history holds its value at resale better than most.
At West Auto, you get:
Give us your registration and mileage when you call and we will tell you what your Toyota is due, what the service covers, and what it will cost before you commit to anything.

Toyota owners tend to keep their cars a long time, which is rather the point of buying one. Over that many years the servicing decisions add up, and where the car goes for them starts to matter more than it did in year one.At West Auto, we keep things clear and practical from the start.

The Hybrid Battery Warranty: The Honest Answer
We will deal with this first, because it is the question most Toyota hybrid owners actually want answered, and because the honest answer is not entirely in our favour.Toyota runs a scheme that extends hybrid battery cover year by year, well beyond the original warranty period. The condition is that an annual hybrid health check is carried out by a Toyota authorised centre.

Servicing a Toyota Hybrid
Setting the battery scheme aside, the routine servicing on a hybrid covers much the same ground as any other car: engine oil and filter, air and cabin filters, brakes, tyres, suspension, fluid levels and a full inspection. There are a few things that behave differently on a hybrid, and they are worth knowing about:
- Brakes last, then corrode. Regenerative braking does much of the slowing, so pads often last a very long time. The discs, meanwhile, spend their lives lightly used and can corrode rather than wear. Hybrids frequently need discs before pads, which is the opposite of what owners expect.
- The 12V battery is separate. Hybrids have a conventional 12V battery alongside the traction battery, and it is a common cause of a car that will not start. See car batteries.
- Low viscosity oil. Many Toyota hybrids specify a thin oil grade chosen for efficiency, and using something heavier is not a harmless substitution.
- Short journeys still count. The petrol engine on a hybrid runs intermittently, so it spends proportionally more time getting up to temperature, which is hard on oil.
Chains, Not Belts
Most modern Toyota engines use a timing chain rather than a belt, so there is no scheduled cambelt replacement to plan for and budget around. That is a genuine ownership advantage and one of the reasons these cars stay cheap to run.It is not a free pass, though.
Will Independent Servicing Affect Your Toyota Warranty?
No. UK block exemption rules entitle you to have your vehicle serviced by an independent garage without affecting the manufacturer warranty. The manufacturer's schedule must be followed, and the parts and fluids used must meet the manufacturer's specification. That is how we work.
The hybrid battery extension scheme covered above is separate and runs on its own terms, which is why we have set it out plainly rather than buried it.

Toyota Servicing FAQs
Can an independent garage service a Toyota hybrid?
Yes. The routine servicing on a hybrid covers much the same ground as any other car: engine oil and filter, filters, brakes, tyres, suspension and inspection. There is one exception worth knowing about, which is Toyota's own hybrid battery warranty extension scheme.
Will servicing elsewhere affect my Toyota hybrid battery warranty extension?
Toyota's scheme extends hybrid battery cover each year on the condition that an annual hybrid health check is carried out by a Toyota authorised centre. That specific check has to be done by Toyota, so if the extension matters to you, keep it going. Your standard servicing can still be done independently without affecting your main vehicle warranty.
Do Toyota hybrids need brake work less often?
Pads usually last much longer, because regenerative braking does a good share of the slowing. The catch is that discs can corrode from being lightly used rather than wearing out, so hybrids often need discs before pads, which surprises owners expecting the opposite.
Does a Toyota have a cambelt?
Most modern Toyota engines use a timing chain rather than a belt, so there is no scheduled replacement interval. Chain life depends heavily on regular oil changes at the correct specification, so servicing still matters even though there is no belt to book in.
Will independent servicing affect my Toyota warranty?
No. UK block exemption rules entitle you to have your vehicle serviced by an independent garage without affecting the manufacturer warranty, provided the manufacturer schedule is followed and the parts and fluids meet specification. The hybrid battery extension scheme is separate and runs on its own terms.
