Do Discs Need Changing With the Pads?

Discs have a manufacturer minimum thickness, and a healthy set will often see out two sets of pads. If yours are within limits and in good condition, we will fit pads only and tell you roughly how much life the discs have left.

Discs do need replacing when they are worn below minimum thickness, deeply scored, badly lipped at the edge, warped, or cracked. In those cases new pads on old discs will not bed in properly and you will be back with judder or noise soon enough.

Brake fluid is hygroscopic, which means it absorbs moisture from the air over time. That moisture lowers the boiling point, and under heavy or repeated braking the fluid can boil, leaving you with a pedal that goes soft or long exactly when you need it not to.
