BMW service due? Your car's own service data decides what it needs, not a menu price.

Your Local Independent BMW Garage in Westerhope, Newcastle

BMW ownership rewards proper maintenance and punishes neglect faster than most. These are engines with tight tolerances, complex variable valve timing and turbochargers that depend on clean oil at the right specification.

At West Auto, we keep things clear and practical from the start.

We work with BMW drivers across Newcastle, Westerhope, West Denton, Chapel House, Chapel Park, Newbiggin Hall, Lemington, Denton Burn and the surrounding areas.

If your BMW needs more than a service, you are already in the right place. Our garage services include servicing, diagnostics, repairs and MOTs.

BMW Condition Based Servicing

BMW does not work to a single annual service. Instead it uses Condition Based Servicing, or CBS, which tracks each service item separately.

Sensors and driving data monitor engine oil, brake pads front and rear, brake fluid, the cabin microfilter, air filter, spark plugs and the vehicle check, each with its own countdown. The car then tells you what is actually due rather than replacing everything on a calendar.

It is a sensible system, and it is why two BMWs of the same age can need entirely different work. Yours might need oil and a microfilter while the car next to it needs brakes and plugs.

It also means a fixed-price service menu rarely fits a BMW properly. Tell us what your car is showing when you call and we will quote on what it actually needs.

Will Independent Servicing Affect Your BMW Warranty?

No. UK block exemption rules entitle you to have your vehicle serviced by an independent garage without affecting the manufacturer warranty.

The conditions are straightforward: the manufacturer's schedule must be followed, and the parts and fluids used must meet the manufacturer's specification. That is exactly how we service BMW.

You get a full invoice detailing the work carried out and the parts and fluids used. Keep those. They are your service record and your evidence if a warranty question ever arises.

BMW Oil Approvals

BMW specifies oil by its own approval standard, not simply by viscosity, and the approvals differ across the range and between petrol and diesel.

The distinction matters most on diesels with a particulate filter, which need a low-ash oil to the correct approval. An oil outside specification produces excess ash that accumulates in the DPF, and a blocked DPF is an expensive way to save money on a service.

Turbocharged petrols are equally particular. The oil cools the turbo as well as lubricating it, and the wrong grade compromises both.

We check what your specific engine calls for before the car comes in. Nothing generic, nothing approximate.

Timing Chains, Not Belts

Most modern BMW petrol and diesel engines use a timing chain rather than a belt, so there is no scheduled replacement interval to worry about. That sounds like good news, and mostly it is.

The catch is that a chain's life depends almost entirely on oil. Chains, guides and tensioners are lubricated by the engine oil, and extended intervals or the wrong specification wear them faster than most owners realise.

Certain BMW engines have a reputation for timing chain wear, and on some of them the chain sits at the back of the engine, which makes replacement a substantial job. Regular oil changes with the correct oil are the single best defence.

Worth listening for a rattle on cold start-up, particularly for the first few seconds. If you hear one, get it looked at rather than waiting.

What a BMW Service Includes

epending on what your car is due, a service typically covers:
  • Engine oil and filter to the correct BMW approval.
  • Cabin microfilter.
  • Air filter, when due.
  • Fuel filter on diesels, when due.
  • Spark plugs on petrols, when due.
  • Brake fluid, typically every two years.
  • Brake pad, disc and wear sensor inspection.
  • Tyre condition and pressures.
  • Suspension and steering inspection.
  • Coolant, screenwash and fluid levels.
  • Lights, wipers and battery condition.
  • Diagnostic scan for stored fault codes.
You get told what we found, including anything approaching the end of its life, so nothing arrives as a surprise later.

The BMW Jobs Owners Miss

Several BMW-specific items sit outside the basic service picture:
  • Battery registration. A new battery must be registered to the vehicle, or the charging system treats it as the old one and shortens its life. See car batteries.
  • Brake pad wear sensors. Single-use items that should be replaced whenever pads are changed, not reused. See brakes.
  • Automatic gearbox oil. Often described as filled for life, and widely worth changing anyway on higher-mileage cars. See gearbox servicing.
  • xDrive transfer box and differential fluid. Rarely mentioned, and easily overlooked on four-wheel-drive models.
  • AdBlue and emissions. Modern BMW diesels run an SCR system with its own faults. See AdBlue repairs.
  • Coolant and water pump. Electric water pumps are a known wear item on several BMW engines.
Give us your registration and mileage and we will tell you which of these apply to your car.

BMW Models We Work On

We service the BMW range, including:
  • 1 Series, 2 Series, 3 Series, 4 Series, 5 Series, 6 Series, 7 Series and 8 Series.
  • X1, X2, X3, X4, X5, X6 and X7.
  • Z4.
  • M Sport and M models.
  • xDrive and rear-wheel-drive variants.
  • Petrol, diesel and hybrid.
If your BMW is not on that list, call us with the registration and we will confirm.

Why Choose West Auto for BMW Servicing?

A BMW serviced properly stays a good car for a long time. One serviced cheaply tends to present its bill later, usually somewhere expensive.

At West Auto, you get:
  • A trusted local garage in Westerhope, Newcastle.
  • The service built around what your car is due, not a fixed menu.
  • The correct BMW oil approval for your engine.
  • Manufacturer schedule followed, so your warranty stays intact.
  • A full invoice detailing the work and the parts used.
  • Servicing, MOTs, diagnostics and repairs in one place.
We are here to look after your BMW to the standard it was built to.

BMW Servicing Costs

Because CBS tracks each item separately, no two BMW services are quite the same, and a fixed menu price would either overcharge you or leave something out.

BMW Servicing FAQs

What is BMW Condition Based Servicing?
Condition Based Servicing, or CBS, is BMW's system for monitoring individual service items rather than working to one fixed interval. Sensors and driving data track the engine oil, brake pads, brake fluid, cabin microfilter and other items separately, so each is replaced when it is actually due rather than on a calendar.
Will independent servicing affect my BMW warranty?
No. UK block exemption rules entitle you to have your vehicle serviced by an independent garage without affecting the manufacturer warranty, provided the manufacturer schedule is followed and the parts and fluids meet specification. Keep the invoices as your service record.
Do BMWs have a cambelt?
Most modern BMW petrol and diesel engines use a timing chain rather than a belt, so there is no scheduled replacement interval. Chains are not maintenance-free in practice though, and their life depends heavily on regular oil changes with the correct specification oil.
Does a new BMW battery need registering to the car?
Yes, on most modern BMWs. The battery has to be registered to the vehicle so the charging system treats it as new. Fitting one without registering it means the car keeps charging it as though it were the old, tired battery, which shortens the life of the new one considerably.
What does a BMW need beyond the standard service items?
Depending on the model, automatic gearbox oil, transfer box and differential fluid on xDrive models, brake fluid every two years, and on diesels the AdBlue system. Brake pad wear sensors are also single-use and should be replaced whenever pads are changed.

Highly recommend their services! Will be back 😊
Excellent garage. Highly recommend. Had an issue with the coolant on my way home from holiday with a 2 hour journey still to do. Pulled in at 4.30 and asked if they could take a look. Immediately saw the issue and set about a temporary repair. Friendly and knowledgeable. Even provided a cannister of water in case we needed a top up on the way home.
I cannot thank them enough. Highly recommend.
I had a great experience with this garage. The team was professional, friendly, and explained everything clearly before starting the repair. The work was done on time and the price was fair.
It’s hard to find a garage you can trust, but I definitely recommend them!
