Your Local Independent Mercedes Garage in Westerhope, Newcastle

Mercedes-Benz builds cars to be maintained rather than neglected, and the engineering assumes it. Air suspension, complex automatic gearboxes and closely specified fluids all reward being looked after and get expensive when they are not.

At West Auto, we keep things clear and practical from the start.

We work with Mercedes drivers across Newcastle, Westerhope, West Denton, Chapel House, Chapel Park, Newbiggin Hall, Lemington, Denton Burn and the surrounding areas, on cars and commercial vehicles alike.

If your Mercedes needs more than a service, you are already in the right place. Our garage services include servicing, diagnostics, repairs and MOTs.

Mercedes Service A and Service B

Mercedes-Benz alternates between two service types rather than repeating the same one each year.

Service A is the lighter of the two. Engine oil and filter, fluid level checks, tyre condition and pressures, a brake inspection and a reset of the service counter.

Service B covers everything in Service A, then adds the cabin dust filter and a brake fluid exchange, along with a more thorough inspection.

Your car works through A, then B, then A again, so the two alternate over the years. Additional items such as spark plugs, air filters and fuel filters fall due at their own intervals on top.

The display will tell you which is due. Read it out to us when you call and we will know exactly what your car needs.

What ASSYST Is Telling You

Mercedes uses the Active Service System, or ASSYST, to work out when a service falls due. Rather than counting miles alone, it factors in journey length, engine load, operating temperature and how the vehicle is actually used.

That is why two identical cars can be due at very different points. A Sprinter doing long motorway runs and one doing short urban drops will reach a service at quite different mileages, and correctly so.

The system displays the service type due and the days or miles remaining. It is a good system, but it only works if the service is carried out properly and recorded correctly afterwards.

Will Independent Servicing Affect Your Mercedes Warranty?

No. UK block exemption rules entitle you to have your vehicle serviced by an independent garage without affecting the manufacturer warranty.

Two conditions apply: the manufacturer's schedule must be followed, and the parts and fluids used must meet the manufacturer's specification. That is how we service Mercedes-Benz.

You get a full invoice detailing the work carried out and the parts and fluids used. Keep those. They are your service record and your evidence if a warranty question ever arises.

MB-Approval Oils

Mercedes-Benz operates its own oil approval system, with specific MB-Approval numbers rather than a general viscosity grade. Different engines call for different approvals, and diesel models with a particulate filter need a low-ash oil to the correct standard.

This is not a technicality. An oil outside specification produces excess ash that accumulates in the DPF, and on modern diesels a blocked filter is a substantial bill.

There is a second reason it matters on Mercedes specifically. Because ASSYST extends intervals based on driving conditions, the oil in the engine has to be capable of going the distance. Fill it with something cheaper and the interval the car has calculated is no longer safe.

We check what your specific engine calls for before the car comes in.

The Automatic Gearbox Service Everyone Forgets

This one is worth singling out, because Mercedes handles it differently from most manufacturers.

Where many makers describe automatic gearbox oil as filled for life, Mercedes specifies an oil and filter service on most automatics at a defined interval. It is on the schedule, and it is skipped constantly.

The reason it gets skipped is that nothing feels wrong when it is due. The reason it matters is what happens when it is not done: harsh or delayed shifts, hunting between gears, and eventually a gearbox needing far more than an oil change.

If your Mercedes is past 40,000 miles and has never had one, it is worth asking about. See our gearbox servicing page.

What a Mercedes Service Includes

Depending on whether Service A or Service B is due, the work covers:
  • Engine oil and filter to the correct MB-Approval.
  • Cabin dust filter on Service B.
  • Brake fluid exchange on Service B.
  • Air filter, when due.
  • Fuel filter on diesels, when due.
  • Spark plugs on petrols, when due.
  • Brake pad, disc and wear sensor inspection.
  • Tyre condition and pressures.
  • Suspension and steering inspection.
  • Coolant, screenwash and fluid levels.
  • Lights, wipers and battery condition.
  • Diagnostic scan for stored fault codes.
You get told what we found, including anything approaching the end of its life, so nothing arrives as a surprise later.

Mercedes-Specific Jobs Beyond the Service

Several items sit outside the A and B schedule and catch owners out:
  • Automatic gearbox oil and filter. On the schedule, widely skipped, and expensive to ignore.
  • AIRMATIC air suspension. Air struts and compressors are known wear items on models fitted with it, and a sagging corner overnight is the usual first sign. See suspension repairs.
  • AdBlue and BlueTEC. Modern Mercedes diesels run an SCR system with its own particular faults. See AdBlue repairs.
  • 4MATIC fluids. Transfer box and differential oils on four-wheel-drive models, rarely mentioned and easily overlooked.
  • Timing chains. Most modern Mercedes engines use a chain rather than a belt, and chain life depends heavily on regular oil changes at the correct specification.
  • Brake fluid. Included in Service B, and worth confirming it has actually been done if you have inherited a patchy history.
Give us your registration and mileage and we will tell you which of these apply to your vehicle.

Mercedes Vans and Fleet

Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicles are a large part of what we see, and they have a different set of priorities.

A van off the road is lost income, so the emphasis shifts to keeping downtime short, catching wear before it becomes a breakdown, and being straight about what needs doing now versus what can wait for the next visit.

We service and maintain Sprinter, Vito and Citan, and work with fleet operators as well as owner-drivers. If you run several vehicles, call us and we can talk about scheduling them sensibly rather than reactively.

Mercedes Models We Work On

We service the Mercedes-Benz range, including:
  • A-Class, B-Class, C-Class, E-Class and S-Class.
  • CLA, CLS and GLA.
  • GLB, GLC, GLE and GLS.
  • V-Class.
  • Sprinter, Vito and Citan.
  • AMG Line and AMG models.
  • 4MATIC and rear-wheel-drive variants.
  • Petrol, diesel and hybrid.
If your Mercedes is not on that list, call us with the registration and we will confirm.

Why Choose West Auto for Mercedes Servicing?

Mercedes-Benz servicing is not complicated, but it is exacting. The right oil approval, the right service type, the right reset, and the items outside the schedule dealt with before they become failures.

At West Auto, you get:
  • A trusted local garage in Westerhope, Newcastle.
  • Service A or Service B carried out to the correct schedule.
  • Oil carrying the correct MB-Approval for your engine.
  • Manufacturer schedule followed, so your warranty stays intact.
  • Cars and commercial vehicles handled equally seriously.
  • A full invoice detailing the work and the parts used.
We are here to look after your Mercedes to the standard it was built to.

Mercedes Servicing Costs

Cost depends on the model, the engine and whether Service A or Service B is due, so a single figure would not tell you much.

Give us your registration, mileage and whatever the service display is showing when you call. We will tell you which service your vehicle needs, what it covers, and what it will cost before you commit to anything.

Mercedes Servicing FAQs

What is the difference between Mercedes Service A and Service B?
Service A is the lighter of the two, covering engine oil and filter, fluid levels, tyres, a brake inspection and a reset of the service counter. Service B covers everything in Service A plus the cabin dust filter and a brake fluid exchange, along with additional checks. They alternate, so your car works through A, then B, then A again.
What is ASSYST on a Mercedes?
ASSYST is the Active Service System, which calculates when a service is due based on how the vehicle is actually driven rather than a fixed mileage. It accounts for journey length, engine load and operating temperature, then displays the service type and the days or miles remaining.
Will independent servicing affect my Mercedes warranty?
No. UK block exemption rules entitle you to have your vehicle serviced by an independent garage without affecting the manufacturer warranty, provided the manufacturer schedule is followed and the parts and fluids meet specification. Keep the invoices as your service record.
Does a Mercedes automatic gearbox need an oil change?
Yes. Unlike many manufacturers, Mercedes specifies an automatic transmission oil and filter service at a defined interval on most models. It is one of the most commonly skipped jobs on the car, and skipping it shortens the life of an expensive gearbox.
Do you service Mercedes Sprinter and Vito vans?
Yes. We service Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicles alongside the car range, including Sprinter, Vito and Citan, and we work with fleet operators as well as individual owners.

Highly recommend their services! Will be back 😊
Excellent garage. Highly recommend. Had an issue with the coolant on my way home from holiday with a 2 hour journey still to do. Pulled in at 4.30 and asked if they could take a look. Immediately saw the issue and set about a temporary repair. Friendly and knowledgeable. Even provided a cannister of water in case we needed a top up on the way home.
I cannot thank them enough. Highly recommend.
I had a great experience with this garage. The team was professional, friendly, and explained everything clearly before starting the repair. The work was done on time and the price was fair.
It’s hard to find a garage you can trust, but I definitely recommend them!
